On December 12, a group of Azerbaijani so-called "environmentalists" in civilian clothes, allegedly for environmental purposes, blocked the only road connecting Artsakh with Armenia and the outside world, the Stepanakert-Goris highway. As a result of the closure of this road, the transport connection of the villages of Lisagor, Mets Shen, Hin Shen and Yeghtsaogh of the Shushi region with the capital Stepanakert was interrupted.

On the same day, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Artsakh regarded the actions of the Azerbaijani side as a provocation and another manifestation of Baku's genocidal policy.

The National Assembly of Artsakh stated that the Azerbaijanis, who used phosphorus bombs against the civilian population of Artsakh, under the pretext of protecting the environment, blocked the Stepanakert-Goris road of life, the highway, which by a tripartite agreement on November 9 (10) received the status of a corridor.

A day later, the Artsakh Parliament announced the threat of a humanitarian catastrophe for the people of Artsakh.

On the second day of the road closure, Azerbaijan, which is pursuing its plans under the guise of protecting the environment, also cut off gas supplies. This was an obstacle for schoolchildren and students in exercising their right to education.

The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Artsakh reported that due to the cessation of the operation of the only gas pipeline supplying the Republic of Artsakh, classes in educational institutions heated by gas will be temporarily suspended from December 14.

Gas supply was restored only on December 16, classes resumed on December 19 in all educational institutions where the educational process was stopped.

1,100 civilians, 270 of whom are minors, cannot return to their homes due to Azerbaijan blocking the Lachin corridor. As of December 20, due to the blocking of the only road connecting Artsakh with Armenia, planned operations in medical institutions operating under the authority of the RA Ministry of Health are still suspended.

13 children are in the intensive care units and newborns in the Arevik medical unit. The state of health of a 4-month-old baby diagnosed with visceral leishmaniasis remains critical.

Azerbaijan has not heeded the calls of international organizations, continues to keep the Lachin corridor closed, thereby creating the risk of a humanitarian catastrophe for 120,000 citizens, who are cut off from the world and are under siege in the 21st century, grossly violating human rights and fundamental freedoms.
