"Maestro Sergey Smbatyan has been acquitted," writes the Attorney Yervand Varosyan on his Facebook page.
“By the decision of the Prosecutor at the RA Prosecutor General's Office, the criminal prosecution of Sergey Smbatyan has been terminated on the grounds of not having committed the alleged crime ascribed to him,” reads the attorney’s Facebook publication.
As was announced earlier, Armen Smbatyan, former Ambassador of Armenia to Russia and Israel, and his son Sergey Smbatyan, Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra, were detained for a period of 2 months by the court's decision. They were suspected of causing property damage amounting to 966 million Armenian Drams to the Republic of Armenia. However, their lawyer later made a reference to another unrelated and false criminal case instead, which allegedly involved a calculated damage of 166 million Armenian Drams.
Later on, Sergey Smbatyan was released from custody.
Details on the case have been released by the General Prosecutor's Office earlier today as well.
